What is Depression?

Depression is medically classified as a "mood disorder." You can describe it as a feeling of loneliness, sadness, and anger that really affects your everyday activities. It is much more common than a lot of people think, in fact it is estimated that roughly around 20 percent of Canadian adults will suffer through some sort of mental illness in their lifetime. Unlike other medical conditions, depression really affects everybody differently. Somebody who suffers from depression may experience obstacles in their day to day life. Things you may have done effortlessly before, may become a much bigger obstacle now. Depression not only affects your mental health, but also your physical health as well as you may not have the motivation to practice healthy habits such as exercise, diet, etc.. This is why it is important to address any symptoms or effects you may have early, rather than ignoring or putting it off for later. Depression is a medical condition and should be treated as such!
