There are three major types of diabetes:

Type 1 Trype 2 Gestational Prediabetes

Type 1

Type 1 diabetes is called an autoimmune disease. The body’s system for fighting infection is affected and your immune system, attacks and destroys the cells in your pancreas that make insulin. As a result, the body is left without insulin.

Type 2

Type 2 diabetes is the more common type of diabetes. It is caused by several factors including obesity, genetics, a family history, ethnic background, and other environmental factors.

Type 2 diabetes is the result of not enough insulin being made in the pancreas, and insulin resistance when the body isn’t able to use the insulin it makes. When this happens, glucose (sugar) in your blood is not able to enter the cells where it should get used for energy.

Facts: You are more likely to develop type 2 diabetes if you are not physically active and are overweight or obese

Type 3

Types 3 which is called Gestational diabetes occurs during pregnancy. This type is usually temporary.
