What is Global Warming?
Global warming is one of the most concerning global issues at the present time. Global warming is the result of greenhouse gas emissions that pollute the environment and damage the air quality. Greenhouse gas effect is a mixture of gases that trap the sun’s warmth and make the earth warmer. These gases are produced by using fossil fuels such as coal, petroleum, and natural gas. The daily life activities contribute to the greenhouse gas emissions, such as carbon dioxide emission using vehicles, nitrous dioxide emission due to fertilizers used in agricultural growth, methane emission due to animal digestion and waste, and chlorofluorocarbons released from the use of refrigerators.
Global warming is the slow heating of the earth’s atmosphere due to trapped greenhouse gases. The start of global warming is due to the industrialization of the global economy; but pre-industrialization era (between 1850 – 1900), human activities were still making slow contribution to global warming by using vehicles. The research shows that the earth has seen warmer climate 100,000 years ago but the concerning matter is that what took thousands of years before, is now happening in 10 years. As industrialization is increasing globally, global warming is increasingly as a faster rate. In the last one hundred years, the earth has become 0.5 degree Celsius warmer; 25% of this increase is dependent on the carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions. (Films Media Group, 1990)
Since global warming is affecting the entire world, the cold countries are seeing warmer weathers, and the warm countries are facing droughts due to increased heat. The high heat levels are increasing sea levels as well, impacting all countries situated in coastal areas, for example, Bangladesh. From east to west and north to south, the entire world is facing the challenge of global warming while worrying about the future generations.
The consequences of the global warming are increasing temperature of earth and ocean, faster melting of glaciers, rising sea levels, increasing number of natural disasters, and increasing acidity in the oceans (impacting aquatic animals).
